i'm talkin' television.

i've come to the conclusion that i watch a lot of t.v. and by that i mean i watch too many different shows to keep up with! i'm currently watching:
+ modern family seas 2
+ community s. 1
+ i love lucy s. 2
supernatural s. 1
+ dr who s. 1 (of the 2005 series)
+ gossip girl s. 4
+ the secret life of the american teenager s. 2
+ saturday night lights s. 1
new girl s. 1
and i just borrowed sherlock from a friend and have about 1,000 more shows on my iq on netflix. while it takes me quite some time to actually get through said shows because i rarely actually have time to watch them, i do enjoy getting lost in the awesomeness that is television.

well, to feel productive about my addiction, i've decided to whip up a few telly reviews now and then. everybody reviews films but few people review television! so tonight, i'm going to talk about a few of the shows i'm currently watching.
let's get started, shall we?
community
season 1
i.... don't love it. everyone kept telling me "community is the new 'office'," and "you have to watch it, its so much funnier than the office." welllllll its not the worst show i've seen but it is most definitely not comparable to the office either. i don't like the characters as much and i think that's what it all stems from. i think the actual story idea could have worked but so far, i am not feeling the chemistry between the characters and its really not as funny. i will say, the whole peirce/von rivalry thing is kind of humerus and i do like abed but... i prefer the office (and other shows) above this one.
however, i'm going to keep watching. perhaps it will get better.
supernatural
season 1
i have already seen season 1 and 2 of this but my friend hasn't so we get together once a week and watch it. i l-o-v-e this show. yes, it is creepy as all get out and i cover my eyes through most of it but i love the winchester brothers *ahem* dean to be exact. i really like the show because of the witty one liners the winchesters throw back and forth at one another. it adds a nice twist to the crazy-scary-through-the-whole-thing theme that horror films and shows usually carry.
and did i mention dean winchester (aka jensen ackles). i mean, he's worth every minute that i spend creeped out. and yes, the sfx are kiiiind of horrible but still, the story line is good and even the music rocks my socks. i love.
dr who
season 1 or, more accurately the 9th doctor
i. love. this. show. and i know that everyone's favorite dr is ten, but i'm so jiving on 9 right now! i love he and rose's chemistry. and i love all the weird creepy alien stuff that happens. this show is definitely for nerds, like me, and is definitely about as british as it gets.
what are you watching right now?

new girl.

the new girl pilot just aired last night. i may or may not have watched it twice today...
besides the fact that my #1 girl crush, zooey deschanel, is in it, the show is also entertaining. i already love the cast and i can really relate to jess' character. her nerdiness is perfection and her glasses are amaze.

i also just started community and have been working my way through dr. who. and that's all in addition to keeping up with gossip girl and watching i love lucy every night.
yes, i am a television junkie.
what gives?

have you seen new girl yet? if not, go here to watch. you'll thank me later!

junk food & junk t.v.

today called for junk food and junk t.v. when sister and i got home from work all we wanted to do was lay around and v-e-g. sometimes doing nothing is so productive to my soul.
{tonight's crappy television show of choice: the secret life of the american teenager.}

{teddy grahms, fudge oreos and garden salsa yes, please.}

{white cheddar cheez-its. my favorite.}

{raise your hand if you rock at taking timed photos. awesome.}

t.v. obsessions.

netflix is both a joy to have in my life and a serious crutch on which i lean too frequently. i used to be dedicated to a small number of shows (that are still on the air): gossip girl, the big bang theory, the office, modern family, how i met your mother and grey's anatomy (with a growing dedication to supernatural). i knew of other shows and maybe had a smidgen of interest here and there but those 6 were the ones i stuck to religiously.
now that i have netflix and an IQ (instant queue) the possibilities are endless! i have so many shows lined up i don't even know where to begin. as of late, here's what i've been watching on the regular:

glee
season: 1
{via}
show synopsis: a high school glee club fights to remain intact and struggles with their unpopularity. the show is all about true friendships, bullying and being proud of who you are no matter what.
and its all musical.
favorite characters: NOAH PUCKERMAN!!! (l-o-v-e him). quinn, rachel, kurt, mercedes, mr. sheuster, and britney.
why i watch: i was in the equivalent of a glee club when i was in high school. i loved being a drama geek and living my life musically. when this show was first introduced, i was very into it and excited about seeing my high school hobbies portrayed in a television show. then the show got crazy popular and i lost interest.
but now i love it again. if nothing else, i LOVE the music. its so interesting seeing how they arrange songs and how the fit them into the storyline of the show.
and every time puck opens his mouth and sings i drift into a temporary state of twitterpation.
one of my favorite glee moments would be:

the secret life of the american teenager
volumes: 1-5
{via}
show synopsis: basically the show is about teenagers and their decisions about love, life and sex.
favorite characters: ashley, grace, adrian, mr. boykewich
why i watch: the first 2 seasons were addicting because i wanted to know what amy was going to do with her baby. now that i know, i'm interested to see if the show still keeps my attention. that being said, i really admire the way the show approaches touchy subjects when it comes to teens and their lives. while the show will have filibuster moments about making wise decisions as a teen, clearly thrown in to make the show appropriate for teens, i admire the fact that they do it at all. it makes it less about sex and more about making the right decisions for yourself as a teen/young adult.

parks and recreation
seasons: 1 & 2
{via}
show synopsis: this show follows the parks and recreation department of the pawnee, indiana government.
favorite characters: leslie, andy, april, ron, tom and gerry
why i watch: because amy poehler is amazing. she's hilarious and reminds me of lucille ball, one of my favorite actresses ever. the show is shot in the same style that the office is shot which makes if feel like a reality t.v. show even though its not.
i can't not laugh while watching this. its not possible.

the cosby show
seasons: 1
{via}
show synopsis: this show follows a family of 7 living in NYC.
favorite characters: bill, rudy, denise
why i watch: this show cracks me up. the retro-ness of it is enough to keep me entertained and then throw bill cosby into the mix and i basically love this show. its pretty shallow and doesn't really follow a steady storyline, but i don't care. it makes me laugh and its pretty clean. that is quite rare when it comes to television these days.

up next on my IQ:
psych
ugly betty (seas. 3 & 4)
my so called life
prison break (i'm debating on this one)

anyone have any recommendations?

an ode to netflix.

dear netflix:
i realized the second i signed up for your 30 day free trial that having the beautiful luxury of instant streaming might be a problem for me. and i'll admit, i've spent much more time watching things on my computer than i ever thought i would.
but here's my beef:
i want instant streaming. i don't want dvds. if i wanted dvds, i'd go buy them. that being said, i don't feel you have a wide enough selection on your instant streaming list. i want to watch things like Supernatural and Community instantly. i don't want to wait for dvds (and one at a time mind you unless i want to pay what would be the cost of the season anyway). and the fact that all the awesome old shows such as talespin, dinosaurs and duck tales aren't on instant streaming either, kind of makes me get very angry with you. especially when i tell my boys about them and get them very excited only to realize we have to add dvds to our account to be able to watch them.
needless to say, i don't think i'll be paying for an account after my free trial is over. unless you add way more stuff to your instant streaming access (like new movies perhaps, in addition to the bomb dot com tv shows).
so thanks.
but no thanks.
